A Golden Gate Park Elopement

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans,” John Lennon sings in his song “Beautiful Boy.”

Millions and millions of us are living that reality as COVID-19 disrupts our plans and lives. We are going to be living with ” a new normal”. Krista and Josh had planned to wed at San Francisco City Hall at the same time our world was being shut down. For them, getting married had to happen before following through with other plans, like moving in together. They decided that, despite a change in plans, the show must go on.

The new plan: Get married in Golden Gate Park with Krista’s bridesmaid and a close friend to officiate in tow. I was there to capture the event, 6 feet away, of course. First, we did a “first look” shoot at Shakespeare Garden. The trees that line the pathway were in their full spring glory. I was happy to not let those beautiful blossoms go to waste. Next, Krista and Josh exchanged vows at Portal of the Past, where people enjoying the gorgeous day cheered them on. Finally, we ended the day with a few images of the Golden Gate Bridge.

In the future, new plans will need to be made to accommodate our new “normal.” I will capture many “social distancing” elopements, but there is a silver lining. We live in a beautiful area. The is no lack of breathtaking spots to say “I do”, and I will be happy to capture them, 6 feet way, of course.
